UNAUTHORIZED CARD TRANSACTIONS

Visa Zero Liability

Visa's Zero Liability Policy is a guarantee that you won't be held responsible for unauthorized charges made with your account or account information. You're protected if your NE PA Visa credit or debit card is lost, stolen or fraudulently used, online or offline.

The Zero Liability policy only covers transactions that have been confirmed as fraudulent and that are reported in a timely manner. You must report suspected fraud as soon as possible.

NE PA members who experience unauthorized transactions must notify the credit union immediately. We’ll investigate the fraud claim and issue a provisional credit (replacement funds). Provisional credits may be withheld, delayed, limited, or rescinded based on gross negligence or fraud, a delay in reporting unauthorized use, an investigation and verification of a claim, and account standing and history.

Authorized Transaction vs. Fraud

An authorized transaction is one that you made and approved. Fraud is a transaction that you didn't make or approve. If someone steals your information and makes transactions, you didn't authorize those and they are considered fraud.

BE CAUTIOUS…Peer-to-peer payment services and gift cards are not covered under Zero Liability.

Zero Liability doesn't cover transactions you authorized using peer-to-peer services. If you authorize a peer-to-peer payment for a purchase and don't receive the item as promised, it's not covered by the policy. For example, if you transfer someone money to pay for theater tickets and you don't receive the tickets, this isn't covered by Zero Liability. Be very cautious of whom you pay with peer-to-peer payments—it’s the same as paying the person in cash. Note: If someone steals your account credentials and makes a peer-to-peer transaction without your consent, you're covered.

Zero Liability doesn’t cover transactions you authorize using a Visa gift card. For example, if you purchase a gift card and give it to another person to pay for theater tickets and they don't give you the tickets, this transaction isn't covered by Zero Liability. Be very cautious of someone asking for payment in the form of gift cards—it’s the same as paying the person in cash.
